General

What your child needs for nursery

Your child will require the following items:

  •   Nursery shoes for indoor and outdoor use. We suggest a comfortably fitting slip on or Velcro shoe.
  •   A small bag to hold change of clothes
  •   A change of clothes including underwear that are labelled
  •   A waterproof jacket
  •   Wellington Boots which can be left at nursery
  •   Suncream, sunhat and sunglasses for the summer months
  •    Hat, gloves and scarf for the winter months

Each child has their own peg and shoe doucot in the cloakroom to store their personal belongings. Please help us by making sure that all items are clearly named. If you do lose something please speak to a member of the team. To cater for energetic, physical outdoor activities or walks around the local environment children should always be provided with appropriate outdoor clothing. We encourage children to become independent when dressing and when going to the toilet so please refrain from dressing your child in clothes with buckles, braces or lots of buttons! Similarly, ensure children’s coats and outdoor shoes are easy to put on - shoes with laces are not suitable. It is not advisable for children to wear jewellery in the nursery. We do encourage children to wear an apron during art and craft activities and when playing in the water but accidents do happen, please do not dress your child in their best clothes.

Please make sure everything your child brings to Nursery is clearly labelled with their name.

Arriving & Leaving

The Nursery morning sessions are 8:45 – 11.55am and the afternoon sessions are 12.15 – 3.25pm. You are welcome to speak to the Nursery staff upon drop off and pick-up. Should you wish to discuss your child or any issues in more detail, you can ask to make an appointment for a more suitable time.

We operate a flexible arrival and collection policy and allow a 15-minute window at the beginning and end of each session for parents to drop off and collect their children. Children should always be taken to and collected from their Nursery classroom by a responsible adult.

On arrival in your child’s nursery classroom the adult can help the child find their name for self-registration and then brush their teeth at the designated sink before starting to play.

For your information, we cannot release your child into the care of a person other than yourself without your instruction. We also cannot release your child in the care anybody under the age of 16.  Please let us know who will be collecting your child.

As there is only a short turn around period for the staff to be prepared for each session, may we ask that children are collected promptly at the end of the morning session. Doors open at 11.45 am and 3 pm for pickups.

Homework

CAPER: Families are encouraged to read the weekly CAPER book at home and complete a small task. Book bags should be returned to nursery at the start of the session on Tuesday afternoons ( for pm session) and Friday morning (for am session).

Take Home Bear: The children take turns to look after our nursery bears Billy and Bessie at the weekend and share the adventures Billy and  Bessie had at their houses with the group the following week.

All our family learning activities are designed to be fun and meaningful opportunities for parents and carers to engage in their little one's learning.
